Start with a frame

Three custom programs, all made to order. Browse the frames, then bring your room dimensions in and we'll spec it out together.

Popular frames

Each of these is one frame built in several sizes and layouts, so you can put a loveseat and a sectional in the same room without them looking like strangers. Every piece is made to order in your choice of material.

Also built to order: Lexington, Dean, Maxwell and Auren. Ask us about any frame you don't see here — our full custom range runs to more than 200.

American Leather

Three ranges built on the same frames. Several designs — Alora, Bentley and Clara among them — come as a stationary sofa and as a sleeper, so a living room and a guest room can match without looking staged.

Choose your configuration

Most frames can be built in any of these layouts. Shown from above, the way they'll actually sit in your room. Prefer to be walked through it? Use the sofa builder and we'll come back with a price and lead time.

  • Sofa

Two or three seats in a straight run. The default for most living rooms and anywhere the piece sits against a wall.

  • Loveseat

A shorter two-seat frame. Works in apartments, condos, offices, and as a companion piece to a full sofa.

  • Chaise Left LAF*

The extended lounge runs along the left side, as drawn. Best when the long side needs to sit against a wall on your left.

  • Chaise Right RAF*

The extended lounge runs along the right side, as drawn. The mirror image of the layout above.

  • L-Shaped Corner

Two full seating runs meeting at a corner — more seats than a chaise layout. Suits corner placement and open floor plans.

  • U-Shaped

Seating on three sides. The most seats in one piece — built for media rooms, large families, and entertaining.

* Left or right? Point at the picture. There are two conventions in this industry and they are exact opposites. Most manufacturers describe orientation as you stand facing the piece — so a left-facing chaise (LAF) extends toward your left hand as you look at it. Others, including American Leather, describe it as you sit on the sofa, which reverses the label. The same physical sectional is called LAF by one maker and RAF by another.

This is the most common ordering mistake on sectionals, and it is not the customer's fault. So don't rely on the letters. Point to the diagram above, or just tell us which wall the long side should run along, and we'll translate it into the correct code for whichever manufacturer builds your frame — then confirm it against your room measurements before the order goes in.

Why order custom from Contempo

Custom furniture is usually a choice between one manufacturer's house line or a catalog you can't touch. We're neither.

  • Five brands, not one line

Jonathan Louis, Flores Design, Flexsteel, American Leather and Luonto — over 200 custom frames. If one maker's arm style isn't right, the next one's might be. And because we accept customer's own material, you're never held to a single manufacturer's fabric book.

  • 4–6 weeks, not a season

Most custom upholstery programs quote twelve to sixteen weeks. Ours runs four to six, so you can order for a move-in date or the holidays without gambling.

  • Priced from $1,078

Custom doesn't have to start in the mid-thousands. Our range spans entry-level made-to-order through luxury American Leather and Luonto builds, so the program scales to your budget rather than the other way round.

  • A real showroom downtown

Photographs of upholstery are unreliable and seat firmness cannot be described. Ten seconds sitting on a frame settles questions that ten emails won't.

How a special order works

Six steps from first visit to delivery. Most of it happens in one conversation.

  1. Start with a frame

The frame sets the silhouette — arm style, back height, seat depth, cushion firmness, leg finish. Browse online to narrow it down, then sit on the ones you're considering.

  2. Pick a configuration and size it to your room

Choose your layout from the options above, then adjust length, depth, and chaise orientation. Sectionals can also be built as modular pieces that reconfigure later if you move.

Bring your room dimensions — and measure your doorway, hallway, stairwell, and elevator. We confirm the finished piece can physically reach the room before the order is written. Send a floor plan and we'll do this for you before you visit.

  3. Choose your fabric or leather

Order free swatches by mail, or compare them side by side in the showroom. This is where most of the decision-making happens.

  4. Review the specification

We write up the full spec — frame, dimensions, configuration, orientation, material, cushion fill, leg finish — and go through it with you line by line before anything is submitted. Once you approve it, production begins.

  5. Production — 4 to 6 weeks

Your piece is cut, built, and upholstered to your specification. We'll contact you as soon as it's ready to schedule delivery.

  6. White glove delivery

Our team brings it into your home at a time that works for you, unwraps it, assembles it if needed, and takes all the packaging away with them.

Fabric, leather, and COM

Screens lie about color and tell you nothing about texture. Get the real thing in your hands before you decide.

Performance fabrics

Stain-resistant, pet-friendly weaves built for daily use. The practical choice for family rooms, households with kids, and anyone who'd rather not think twice about a spilled glass of wine.

Leather

Available in medium to heavy protective finishes. Heavier finishes clean easily and wear evenly; lighter, more natural finishes develop more character but show more. We'll walk you through the trade-off based on how the piece will be used.

COM — Customer's Own Material

You are not limited to our fabric library. If you've found a textile elsewhere — a designer specification, a mill you already work with, a discontinued pattern you've been holding onto — our manufacturers will upholster your frame in it.

Send us the fabric details and we'll confirm yardage, suitability for upholstery use, and manufacturer approval before the order is written. It's the difference between choosing from a catalog and actually specifying a piece.

Before you order

Custom pieces are built specifically for you, so they're handled differently from stock merchandise. Please read this before placing an order.

  • Custom and personalized pieces are non-returnable. They fall outside our standard 30-day return window because they can't be resold.
  • Cancellations are accepted within 48 hours of placing the order, for a full refund. After that, production has been released and custom orders are non-refundable.
  • Defects and shipping damage are covered. If your piece arrives damaged or has a defect in materials or workmanship, contact us with photos and your order number. Custom pieces carry our standard one-year warranty.
  • Approve your spec carefully. Color, configuration, and dimensions lock once production begins — which is exactly why we review every line with you first.
